Cycles

Our chickens are laying eggs! Four have been produced so far (the one above is the very first), but only three were edible because the fourth had a hole pecked in it by chicken or chickens unknown (apparently this means that they need more calcium in their diets - which we have now remedied). I have to say that eggs from your own chickens taste so much better than other eggs!

The year is gradually moving towards winter. It is especially cool today (though the chickens are itching to get out of their coop as always) with rain and a pretty fresh wind. This little fellow retreated inside attached to the clothes being brought inside from the clothesline. I carried him outside again, but he wasn't having it, so I held out my hand and he chose a spot on the bathroom wall.

How exciting to get your first eggs! We recently got two golden wyandottes and i'm hanging out for my first, though the breeder said not to expect anything until spring...

Oh, congrats for the eggs. We had Chickens in Germany. There's nothing better than the eggs of the very own chickens. Enjoy!

Max -
Ours are Isa Browns. We got them at 14.5 weeks of age and the breeder said they wouldn't lay eggs for about a month to six weeks - she was pretty much spot on.

Diana -

Thanks :) They're gorgeous, aren't they!

Very jealous of your chooks and eggs!
Our neighbour chook no longer comes over the fence and lays - miss the eggs but not the mess she made!

They are a little messy but as my husband says 'You want eggs, you've gotta have the mess!' :)

My neighbour gives me aggs from her chickens sometimes. They definitely taste better. The yolks are even a different colour!!

What you did for the moth was very gentle :)

Yes, the yolks are more yellow!

I love moths, so couldn't really think of doing anything else :)
